Region Jönköpings län uses Evira throughout the county

Region Jönköpings län uses Evira as digital treatment support for children and adolescents with obesity. Evira is part of the region's work to develop obesity care and is used within the child and adolescent medicine clinics in Jönköping, Värnamo, and Eksjö.

In brief

1

Three specialist clinics

Evira is used within Region Jönköpings län's child and adolescent medicine clinics in Jönköping, Värnamo, and Eksjö.

2

Digital support and treatment

Since 2024, the region has highlighted Evira as part of its work with digital support and treatment for childhood obesity.

3

Part of specialist care

In the regional follow-up of childhood obesity efforts, Evira is listed alongside continuous follow-up, motivational interviewing, dietitians, physiotherapists, and psychosocial support.

4

Healthcare in development

The region continues to strengthen specialised childhood obesity care and develop a county-wide obesity team.

A public health problem requiring long-term care

According to the Public Health Agency's follow-up, approximately one fifth of children aged 6–10 years are overweight or obese. For children where obesity requires treatment, the National Board of Health and Welfare's national guidelines state that care should be long-term, family-based, and structured.

This places demands on long-term follow-up. Treatment takes place in the family's daily life, while healthcare traditionally only sees the results at scheduled follow-up appointments.

A cohesive care pathway for children with obesity

Region Jönköpings län works with childhood obesity from early detection to specialised treatment. For younger children, early detection and support take place within child healthcare, and from the age of six, the school health services' medical input plays an important role.

When a child with obesity requires specialised care, the child can be referred to a paediatric and adolescent medicine clinic. The region's care guidelines describe several treatment options within specialist care, including combined lifestyle treatment in multiprofessional teams, family support, and digital treatment support.

It is within this care pathway that Evira is used.

Evira becomes part of the region's digital treatment

In November 2024, Region Jönköpings län presented its work on implementing the national care programme for the treatment of obesity in children and young people. Under the heading "Digital support and treatment", the region highlighted three tools: Healthy weight for your child, Evira, and Rörelsepeppen.

When the regional working group for obesity in children and young people followed up on the work in 2025, Evira remained a part of the treatment efforts – alongside, among other things, continuous follow-up, motivational interviewing, obesity courses, physiotherapists, dietitians, psychosocial support, and medication treatment.

Digital treatment in three locations

Region Jönköpings län's paediatric and adolescent medicine operations are county-wide. Specialised paediatric outpatient care is provided at clinics in Jönköping (Rosenlunds vårdcentrum), Värnamo (Värnamo sjukhus), and Eksjö (Höglandssjukhuset).

Evira is used within the operations of BUMM Norr, BUMM Söder, and BUMM Öster, thereby becoming a shared digital treatment support in the county's childhood obesity care.

From the home weighing scale to the clinic's basis

Home weighings are automatically sent to Evira and converted into a trend that considers the child's growth. The family sees the trend in the app, and the treatment team sees the same development in the healthcare interface.

Treatment data from Swedish childhood obesity care is reported to the quality register BORIS. More frequent measurement points between visits provide a broader basis both for individual treatment and for the organisation's follow-up.

Treatment that continues at home

Evira complements the in-clinic treatment with a digital approach between healthcare visits.

The family uses a numberless weighing scale at home. Measurements are transferred to Evira, and weight development is visualised without focusing on kilograms. The family can follow the treatment and their individual goals in the app, while healthcare professionals monitor development through Evira's clinic interface. Evira also provides the family and treatment team with a direct digital communication channel.

In this way, clinical treatment can be combined with follow-up and support in the family's daily life.

A digital support in a broader treatment model

Evira is not a standalone obesity treatment alongside the region's other healthcare. The work is based on several parallel interventions and professions, where the digital treatment support becomes part of a larger clinical whole around the child and the family:

  • continuous follow-up
  • motivational interviewing and obesity course
  • physiotherapist and dietitian
  • psychosocial support
  • digital treatment with Evira
  • coordinated interventions when needed
  • medication treatment

The region continues to develop childhood obesity care

Work with Evira is taking place simultaneously with the region's broader reinforcement of care for children and young people with obesity – with developed care pathways, referral criteria, and collaboration between, among others, paediatric and adolescent medicine clinics, the children's hospital, and rehabilitation centres.

In the region's budget for 2026, additional resources have been allocated to develop a childhood obesity team within specialist care and continue the implementation of the national care programme. The goal is for children with obesity to receive the right intervention at the right level of care, where different professions and operations work together around the child.

With Evira, the region gains a common digital treatment support across the county – from the specialist clinic to the family's everyday life.
